To Rialto from the Railway Station by feet

How to reach Rialto by feet from the Railway Station

They are two way to visit Venice: by boat or by feet. But if you chose the second possibility, to reach a point from another can take a long time, although the distances can appear very short on the map. To cross the city by feet from the Railway Station to St Mark's Square, i.e. from North to the South, it will take you half an hour. Along the way, some yellow panels will show you the way towards the key points of the city.

To arrive by feet to Rialto it's necessary at least 25 minutes and you have to cross several bridges. The way, rather simple, is pointed out by the yellow panels and is always right, except in the last section.

Down of the steps at the entry of the station, go on the left, towards the large marble bridge on the Grand Canal, known as "degli Scalzi". At its feet starts a rather broad commercial street, named "Listed di Spagna", which is the beginning of the way to Rialto.

You will arrive quickly in "Campo San Geremia", a square which will oblige you to a little detour to the left; after the neighbor bridge "delle Guglie", recognizable for its four obelisques ("guglie"), you will pass between the displays of the market of "Rio Terà San Leonardo". The road, which runs parallel to the Grand Canal, is always rather broad if compared to the other Venetian streets. Between two bridges there's no more than 200 meters.

When, after four bridges, opens in front of you a right street, very broad and much longer than the others – named "Strada Nova" – you're arrived near the Ca' d' Oro and thus you're close to Rialto. At the end of Strada Nova you find a square with three trees, "Campo Santi Apostoli" (Holy Apostles), where you will see that the flow of the pedestrians turns right and passes a bridge: follow it.

After three curves and passed another bridge, the street comes back right, but it remains narrow. At its end a bridge passes near to the big building of Central Post office. After fifty meters, you're arrived. The statue of the comedywriter Carlo Goldoni rises in the middle of a little square, "Campo San Bartolomeo", from which, on the right, you can take the central staircase of the Rialto's Bridge.
